ASMC 2020 “ZOOMS” TO A HISTORIC CLOSE

The 4th and final session of the Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) was held via Zoom from 16 – 19 November 2020, creating a first in the 13-year history of the training course.

Persistence and perseverance ruled as the 15 participants were determined to complete the course despite the Covid pandemic conditional lockdown which had seen the final session postponed three times. In fact, three of the four sessions were conducted under the shadow of the pandemic.

A Zoom trial was held on Nov 11 before the course resumed for the 15 participants who hailed from the various National Sports Associations (NSAs), State Sports Associations (SSAs), State Sports Council, Armed Forces Sports Council and Sports Clubs to make their presentations on the topics of Managing Marketing and Managing a Major Sport Event.

“The 4th session was originally scheduled for 2 – 5 November 2020, but due to the pandemic outbreak, we planned two other dates and finally reschedule to have an online session,” said Programme Director Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, who conducted the Course with fellow programme director Mr. Wan Yew Leong and three other facilitators.

“It was indeed a blessing as the online session turned out to be a fruitful experience for all.  The participants showed great interest, cooperation and keenness throughout the 4th session and proudly presented their case studies of Module 5 & 6.  They also shared their reflection on the impact of the course and expressed their thanks and gratitude to the facilitators namely Mr. Stanley Charles Louis, Mr. Ahmad Arif Astaman and Mr. Joshua Edgar, and to the programme directors.”

On the third day, OCM Secretary General Dato’ Nazifuddin Najib and   Prof. Dato’ Dr Shamala Subramniam, one of the Vice Presidents of OCM and Chairman of Education and Training, joined the Zoom session to encourage the participants.  A former ASMC 2012 alumni Mr Chan Heng Hong was back online for the third year, joining the session from his base in Greece, to share his knowledge on the “Result System for the Olympics” based on his experience with several Games including Rio 2016, Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2008.

The fourth day of the final session was spent by the participants to complete their written assignments for submission to the course facilitators and eventually to Olympic Solidarity. Mentoring continued through Whatsapp and e-mail.

Overall, it was a successful wrap for the 13th ASMC. OCM is proud of the spirit and commitment of the participants, programme directors and facilitators. We look forward to all participants doing well and pass the course with flying colours.
