The Baseball Federation of Malaysia (BFM), formerly known as the Malaysian Amateur Baseball Association, was formed in 1997. The BFM had obtained the status as the governing body for Baseball in Malaysia and had been actively promoting and developing the sport since 1997.
The BFM which was originally registered under the Registrar of Society (ROS) had registered with the Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO) on Friday, 9th April 2004, when the SCO amended the Sports Development Acts 1997 to include Baseball into the list of sports with effect from 30th December 2000.
The BFM submitted their application to be an affiliate member of the OCM on Friday, 16th April 2004. The Executive Council of the OCM at its meeting on Saturday, 15th January 2005 had approved and accepted the BFM as an Associate Member of the OCM. The affiliate of BFM was later upgraded to an Ordinary Member in 2008.
As part of their commitment in the Olympic Movement, the BFM had participated in three (3) Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM as follows:
a. 23rd SEA Games Philippines 2005
b. 24th SEA Games Nakhon Ratchasima 2007
c. 26th SEA Games Jakarta-Palembang 2011
Unfortunately, the affiliation of the BFM with the OCM was suspended on 11th April 2014 due to debts to the OCM which were not paid on time in spite of leeway given for payment.
The BFM, under the leadership of its current President, Mr. Sazali Husain, had engaged the OCM by making a courtesy call on Tuesday, 9th March 2021. He has made a lot of effort to settle the outstanding payment due to OCM by Thursday, 14th July 2022.
In this regard, the OCM at its 204th Executive Council Meeting which was held on Friday, 17th February 2023 has reinstated the affiliation of the BFM with the OCM as an Associate Member.
“The OCM looks forward to starting a new chapter with the Baseball Federation of Malaysia”
“We are committed to support the development of Baseball in Malaysia as Baseball-Softball is one of the sports governed by the International Federations recognised by the IOC” stated Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
