Y.B. Steven Sim Chee Keong, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports made a short visit to OCM on Thursday, 19 September 2019.
He was welcomed by 3 Executive Board Members of OCM namely Dato’ Seri Azim Zabidi (Deputy President), Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin (Secretary General) and Ms. Moira Tan Siew See (Assistant Secretary General) and the management staff of OCM.
This is the first visit of Y.B. Steven Sim to OCM since his appointment as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports in July 2018.
Prior to his short visit to OCM, Y.B. Steven Sim was present to witness the Sponsorship Presentation Ceremony for the Malaysian Fencing Federation (MFF), which was held in the OCM Sports Museum & Hall of Fame, within the OCM Indoor Sports Complex.
Y.B. Steven Sim witnessed the sponsorship by 4 corporations namely:
- LBS Bina Holdings Sdn. Bhd.
- LaurelCap Sdn. Bhd.
- Creative Junction Sdn. Bhd.
- Novo Quality Services (M) Sdn. Bhd.
Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, in his speech during the Sponsorship Presentation Ceremony, informed that MFF became an affiliate member of OCM since 1966, 53 years ago and that MFF has achieved “Grand Slam” by their participation in 4 major Multi-Sports Games under the jurisdiction of OCM namely:
- Olympic Games (qualified on merit in London 2012);
- Commonwealth Games (Edinburgh 1970);
- Asian Games (Beijing 1990, Guangzhou 2010 & Jakarta-Palembang 2018);
- SEA Games (12 participations since 1989).
Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin in his speech also informed the audience that OCM has provided a number of facilities to MFF such as office space in Wisma OCM; usage of Tan Sri Hamzah Arena in OCM Indoor Sports Complex for championships; financial support through the OCM Trust Fund and tax exemption services to facilitate their sponsorship program.
He congratulated the MFF for successfully obtained the sponsorships from 4 corporations as mentioned earlier. He hoped the MFF will fully utilize the cash sponsorships for the development of the sport and be accountable for all the expenses made.
He also highlighted that MFF is the first NSA to have paid in fully for their B Category participation in the coming 30th SEA Games Philippines 2019.
During the Press Conference session, Y.B. Steven Sim mentioned that the Ministry of Youth and Sports welcomes the support from private sectors in the promotion and development of sports at all levels. He also emphasized the need of NSAs to show good results and to practise accountability in order to ensure a sustainable sponsorship program.
