Ng Eain Yow National Squash player currently world rank 32. Started playing squash at the age of 5 years old.
“My dad said to me do not just stay at home. Go outside and play!” Eain Yow parents are the backbones of his squash career.
Squash Queen, Dato’ Nicol David played a big part in Eain Yow’s career by helping him settle into the Senior Squash Squad.
“She achieves it all, she really amazing. She inspired me and many of us juniors!” added the Kuala Lumpur born who is also the 2016 World Junior Champion.
Eain Yow who has had a 6-month training stint in England in the past said, “There is a lot of difference training in England compared with Malaysia“
“The biggest difference is number of top players. One day I train with world number 1, and sometimes with world number 7!”
“I can participate many squash leagues in England, and it has helped me improve my skills. I can see a lot of improvement in my game, when have I stayed in England” said Eain Yow
At the end of 2019 Eain Yow played against world number 10 Miguel Rodriguez of Columbia in the World Men’s Team Championship and won the first point for Team Malaysia. His first PSA top 10 scalp was the best moment in his squash career up to that point.
It only got better when he won the 2019 Malaysian Open.
With the current Covid-19 Pandemic, the world has had to adapt to a new normal. However, Squash has not had to make too many changes, but nonetheless, they are practicing social distancing.
“With the new norms, we been told that we still be able to carry out similar training sessions to those before the Covid-19 Pandemic!”
During the 3 months of the Movement Control Order (MCO), ISN and SRAM prepared special programs to keep the players fit.
“Every Tuesday and Thursday evening we all needed to do high intensity body workouts via the Zoom App.” said Eain Yow.
The Covid-19 Pandemic did affect Eain Yow’s world ranking target due to the lack of PSA tournaments this year. PSA is the Professional Squash Association, the governing body for professional Squash athletes.
“Before this Pandemic my target was to reach top 20 in the world. Now my target has had to be postponed.”
Eain Yow believes that squash in Malaysia is going in the right direction. He hopes that all upcoming junior squash players continue to enjoy playing the game that he loves.
“There is no need to put much pressure on junior players. It’s more important to enjoy yourself”
