Following a conference call on 22nd January 2021 with the IOC President, Mr. Thomas Bach, and
the President of the Japan Olympic Committee, Mr. Yamashita Yasuhiro, the Olympic Council of
Malaysia is confident that the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from the 23rd of July to the 8th of
August 2021.
During the call, the readiness and the meticulous preparation undertaken by the Japanese government were conveyed to us. Along with other key delivery partners, it is ensured that safe and secure games, not only for the athletes and officials, but also the local community will be held. We stand in solidarity with the IOC and our Japanese counter-part and look forward to participating at the Games.
In addition to the comprehensive countermeasures that will be in place for the Olympic Games Tokyo
2020, we are also in discussion with the IOC in regards to the vaccination of our contingent to the
Games. Particularly, we would like to thank the IOC for their willingness to support the OCM in our
engagement with the Malaysian government pertaining to vaccination for our contingent to the
Olympic Games.
Locally, we will continue our discussions with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science,
Technology & Innovation, the National Sports Council and the National Sports Institute to ensure our
athletes and officials will be able to focus on their training and preparation in the safest environment.
