The Executive Board and Management of OCM wish to express their deepest condolences to the family of the late Mr. Sidney Tung Kim Kee, who passed away peacefully on Monday, 3 June 2019, at the age of 74.
The late Sidney Tung was an architectural designer and draftsman in profession with great passion in the sport of Tenpin Bowling.
He was the founding Secretary of the Kuala Lumpur Tenpin Bowling Association (KLTBA) in 1975. He was appointed as Assistant Secretary General of the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) from 1978 to 1980 and took over as the Secretary General from 1980 to 2013. He had contributed tremendously in the development of the sport of Tenpin Bowling in Malaysia throughput his 35 years of services with the MTBC.
He was the Team Manager of Tenpin Bowling to five (5) SEA Games as follows:
- 11th SEA Games Manila 1981
- 13th SEA Games Bangkok 1985
- 14th SEA Games Jakarta 1987
- 16th SEA Games Manila 1991
- 18th SEA Games Chiang Mai 1995
He was also the Team Manager of Tenpin Bowling to the 10th Asian Games Seoul 1986.
He had also served in various capacities in the Regional Multi-Sports Games as follows:
- Technical Delegate – 1st East Asian Games Shanghai 1993.
- Technical Delegate – 12th Asian Games Hiroshima 1994.
- Technical Delegate – 2nd East Asian Games Busan 1995.
- Jury of Appeal – 19th SEA Games Jakarta 1997.
- Jury of Appeal – 20th SEA Games Brunei Darussalam 1999.
He had played significant roles to organize the Tenpin Bowling competitions when Malaysia hosted the following Multi-Sports Games:
- Tournament Director – 15th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 1989.
- Tournament Director – XVI Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur 1998.
- Tournament Manager – 21st SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2001.
His contributions to the development and promotion of Tenpin Bowling had also been recognized internationally when he was elected to the following portfolios:
- Vice President of Asian Bowling Federation (1991-2007).
- Vice President of Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation (2001-2013).
- Deputy Secretary General of World Tenpin Bowling Association (1999-2003).
The demise of Sidney Tung is a great loss to the Tenpin Bowling fraternity in Malaysia and internationally. May his soul Rest in Peace.
