The President, Executive Board and Management of the OCM express their heartfelt condolences to the family members of Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, 6th November 2022, at the age of 87.
Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam was a former civil servant, who had served as the Principle Examiner of Accounts, at the Office of the Auditor General Malaysia. In 1983, he received an Excellence Service Award from the Audit Department.
He had a great passion for sports, particularly for Hockey and had dedicated almost all his spare time and energy to the promotion of Hockey and the Olympic Movement in Malaysia.
He was elected to serve the Hockey fraternity in various positions as follows:
1. Honorary Treasurer of Selangor Hockey Association (1965 – 1993)
2. Honorary Treasurer of Malaysia Hockey Federation (1987- 1988)
3. Honorary Assistant Treasurer of Malaysian Hockey Federation (1998-2002)
He had also contributed tremendously to the Olympic Movement in Malaysia for having been elected as the Honorary Assistant Treasurer of the OCM for five (5) consecutive terms starting from 3rd November 1996 till 26th May 2007. He was an official representative of the OCM to the Council of the South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) from 1997 to 2001. He was also a member of the OCM-Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund since its inception in 1999 till he passed away.
In the participation of Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM, Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam was appointed the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the first ever Asian Indoor Games held in Bangkok in 2005.
In recognition for his great contributions to the development of the sport of Hockey, he was conferred the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (P.J.K.) by the D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, in 1989. For his contributions and dedication to the Olympic Movement in Malaysia, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of OCM on Friday, 16th December 2011.
“Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam had contributed significantly in keeping the financial statements of OCM in good order during his tenure as the Honorary Assistant Treasurer. On behalf of the OCM, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family” quoted Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
The demise of Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam is a great loss to the sporting fraternity in Malaysia. May his soul Rest in Peace.
