Sport Administrators Course No. 2 (2024)



The OCM Education and Training Committee coordinated the Sport Administrators Course No. 2 (2024) for sports officials of the State of Sarawak, from 21st to 23rd March 2024, at the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE), in Kuching, Sarawak.

The Course was being conducted by 2 accredited National Course Directors (NCDs) namely Ms. Moira Tan Siew See and Mr. Fong Wan Hor, who were assisted by 3 facilitators namely Mr. Chong Choong Seong, Ms. Kalaivalli R. Ratnam and Mr. Ronizam Ismail.

The 3-day Course was attended by 46 sports officials, 35 males (76%) and 11 females (24%), from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak State Sports Council (SSSC), Majlis Kebajikan dan Sukan Anggota-Anggota Kerajaan Sarawak (MAKSAK Sarawak), State/District Sports Associations and sports clubs based in Kuching, Sarawak for the sports of Boxing, Cycling, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Motorsports, Pickleball, Silambam, Skate, Strongman and Taekwondo.

The Course kicked-off with a briefing of the SAC and the introduction to the Principles, Structure and Leadership of the 𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗖 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 by Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, who is also the Assistant Secretary General of OCM and Chairperson of the OCM Education and Training Committee.

The Opening Ceremony of the Course was officiated by Mr. Dolhadi Mazuki, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) on Thursday, 21st March 2024, while the Closing Ceremony and Presentation of Certificates was officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister for both Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) and Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) on Saturday, 23rd March 2024.

“We hope all the 46 sports officials, who have successfully completed the Course, have learnt the 𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗖 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗘𝗦 of 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘, 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧 and 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 and enhanced their knowledge in sport administration” said Ms. Moira Tan Siew See.

Y.B. Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, in his closing speech, expressed his gratitude to the OCM for the collaboration in conducting the Sport Administrators Course for sports officials in Sarawak.

“The organisation of the Sport Administrators Course in Sarawak is timely as we need more trained officers to manage sports, to organise sports events and to manage all sports facilities in Sarawak” quoted Y.B. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“I hope all the participants who have benefited from the course will be able to contribute their services to ensure the successful organisation of the 21st Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024, the biggest SUKMA in history” he added.

Y.B. Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is optimistic about the collective efforts between MYSED and all stakeholders in sports, aiming to make Sarawak a sporting powerhouse. He also believes that Sarawak athletes will continue to excel by contributing medals for Malaysia at major international championships including major Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM.
