The Demise of Ong Hock Eng OLY

The President, Executive Board and Management of OCM express their deepest condolences to the family members of Mr. Ong Hock Eng OLY, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 3rd August 2022, at the age of 88.

Mr. Ong Hock Eng OLY was one of the enthusiastic and determined shooters in the 1950s. In those days, it was difficult for an individual to own a firearm, more so to find a safe and conducive shooting range for training and to get an opportunity to take part in shooting competition. However, Mr. Ong, being a sharp Trap shooter, had put in a lot of effort to enhance himself in proper skills and performance despite of having the lack of proper gear and equipment for competitions.

Mr. Ong had qualified on merit to be part of the Malayan Contingent under the jurisdiction of the Federation of Malaya Olympic Council (FMOC) for its second Olympic outing i.e. the XVII Olympic Games Rome 1960, where he had participated in the Men’s Trap event and was ranked between 37-66 as he did not qualify to advance to the final round of the event.

The demise of Ong Hock Eng OLY is a great loss to the Shooting fraternity in Malaysia. May his soul rest in peace.
