The OCM warmly welcomed Olympian Footballer, Wong Kam Fook OLY, to its office on Wednesday, 3rd January 2024.
Wong Kam Fook OLY, 75 years old, who was born in Perak, was a remarkable goalkeeper for the National Football Team, famously known as the โ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฎโ in the 1970s. His Football career commenced during his secondary school years in Ipoh, culminating in his selection for the Perak Football Team in 1968. His most cherished memory and achievement with the Perak Football Team was securing victory in the Malaysia Cup tournament in 1970 by defeating Kelantan 2-0 in the Final Match.
His talent led to his inclusion in the โ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฎโ Team in 1970 as the primary goalkeeper to participate in various international tournaments such as the esteemed Pestabola Merdeka and the Menโs Asian Qualifiers for the XX Olympic Games Munich 1972 tournament, held form 28th May 1971 to 3rd June 1972, saw Burma (now known as Myanmar), Iran and Malaysia qualifying.
During the Asian Qualifiers for the XX Olympic Games Munich 1972, Wong Kam Fook OLY had guarded the goal for the โ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฎโ, preventing any opponent teams from scoring and resulted the โ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฎโ emerged victorious in all the four (4) matches, securing the top spot in Group A as follows:
a. Malaysia 3 โ 0 Japan
b. Malaysia 1 โ 0 South Korea
c. Malaysia 3 โ 0 China
d. Malaysia 5 โ 0 Philippines
At the XX Olympic Games Munich 1972, Wong Kam Fook OLY had the opportunity to play in all the three (3) matches against West Germany, USA and Morocco, resulting in:
a. Malaysia 0 โ 3 West Germany
b. Malaysia 3 โ 0 USA
c. Malaysia 0 โ 6 Morocco
Prior to his participation in the Olympic Games, he had been a member of the Football Team in the Malaysian Contingent at the 6th Asian Games Bangkok 1970 and the 6th SEAP Games Kuala Lumpur 1971.
He moved to Hong Kong in 1972 to start his career as a professional player until his retirement in 1984. Over his 13 years professional career, he played for 4 (four) different teams namely Caroline Hills, South China, Hong Kong Rangers and Seiko.
In recognizing of Wong Kam Fook OLY and his fellow teammate in the โ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฎโ Team, who proudly represented Malaysia in our first appearance at the Olympic Games in 1972, the OCM inducted the team into the OCM Hall of Fame in 2004.
