Malaysia’s contingent at the Delhi Games is the largest to date, with 203 athletes participating in 14 sports. The athletes justified their selection to give Malaysia its best-ever medal haul with 12 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze. This surpasses the 10-gold medal target that was announced prior to the Games.
Badminton, Shooting and Weightlifting were the biggest winners contributing four (4), two (2) and two (2) gold medals respectively. Koo Kien Keat (Badminton) became Malaysia’s most successful Malaysian athlete at a single Commonwealth Games with three (3) gold medals which he won in the Mixed Doubles event (with Chin Eei Hui), Men’s Doubles event (with Tan Boon Heong) and the Mixed Team event).
Aquatics (Diving), Cycling and Squash became first-time gold medal contributors to the Malaysian Contingent through Pandelela Rinong Pamg (10m platform), giving Malaysia its first gold medal in Diving.
