In Remembrance of Datuk Teh Kew San

The OCM expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family members of Datuk Teh Kew San, a legendary national Badminton hero who passed away on Thursday, 14th May 2026, in Penang.

Datuk Teh Kew San, who was born in 1935, was an exceptional all-rounder whose unwavering determination defined a golden era for Malaysian Badminton.

His contribution to the Malaysian Contingent at Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM remains a benchmark of excellence, particularly his Men’s Singles bronze medal at the 2nd South East Asian Peninsular (SEAP) Games Rangoon 1961.

On the continental stage, he brought further glory to the nation at the 4th Asian Games Jakarta 1962, winning the Men’s Singles silver medal and the Men’s Team bronze medal.

At the 5th Asian Games Bangkok 1966, Datuk Teh Kew San reached the pinnacle of his Asian Games career by capturing the Mixed Doubles gold medal alongside his partner, Dato’ Rosalind Singha Ang. During the same Games, he also played a vital role in securing the Men’s Team silver medal, further cementing his status as one of Malaysia’s most versatile Badminton players in the international arena.

Beyond the SEAP and Asian Games, he was best known as the captain who led Malaysia to the historic Thomas Cup title in 1967.

In recognition of his monumental service to the Malaysian Contingent, Datuk Teh Kew San was inducted into the OCM Hall of Fame in 2004.

“On behalf of the entire Olympic family, we mourn the loss of a true sporting icon. The legacy of Datuk Teh Kew San will forever be etched in the annals of Malaysian sporting history. May his soul rest in peace” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, who also serves as President of SEAGF and Vice President of OCA for Southeast Asia Zone.
