Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan Honoured with the Sports Leadership Award by the Government of Malaysia

The OCM extends its heartiest congratulations to its Vice President, Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan, who also serves as President of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Federation (PSM) and Vice President of the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF), for being honoured with the prestigious Sports Leadership Award during the National Sports Awards 2025 Presentation Ceremony held on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, at Casa 4, National Sports Council (NSC) in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The prestigious National Sports Awards Ceremony was graced and officiated by Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, who personally presented the coveted leadership accolade to Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan, in the presence of Y.B. Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Minister of Youth and Sports and Y.B. Mordi Bimol, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Ceremony was further elevated by the presence of Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of the OCM, President of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the Southeast Asia Zone.

This recognition reflects the visionary and transformative leadership of Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan, who has been instrumental in the modern renaissance of Sepaktakraw since assuming the presidency of PSM in 2022.

Under his guidance, Sepaktakraw in Malaysia has achieved several historic milestones, most notably the official declaration of Titiwangsa Stadium as the “Home of Sepaktakraw” earlier this year. His vision also culminated in the establishment of the Akademi Sepaktakraw Malaysia in Kampung Baru, which now serves as a permanent centre for grassroots development and elite athlete training.

These infrastructural advancements laid the foundation for an unprecedented golden era era for Malaysian Sepaktakraw. Under the stewardship of Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan, the National Sepaktakraw Team has achieved historic gold medal victories in the Men’s Doubles and Men’s Inter Regu Team events at the ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup Kuala Lumpur 2024, followed by a remarkable double gold triumph in the Men’s Team Regu and Men’s Regu events at the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025.

“On behalf of the Olympic family, I would like to express our heartfelt congratulations to Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan on receiving the Sports Leadership Award from the Government of Malaysia” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, President of SEAGF and Vice President of OCA for the Southeast Asia Zone.

“Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan’s contributions to Sepaktakraw have been immense since he took over the helm of PSM in 2022. He has continued to play an important transformative role and is widely recognised as the Father of Transformation for Sepaktakraw (Bapa Transformasi Sepaktakraw) in Malaysia” he added.

Reflecting this profound competitive dominance, the National Sepaktakraw Team also dominated multiple major categories of the National Sports Awards 2025. The Malaysian Sepaktakraw Men’s Team was honoured with the National Men’s Team Award, while their tactician and head coach, Mr. Ahmad Jais Baharun, deservingly received the National Men’s Coach Award.

Introduced in 1966, the National Sports Awards represents the highest official recognition bestowed by the Government of Malaysia to honour the outstanding contributions of athletes, coaches, administrators and journalists who elevate the nation’s name on the international stage.

The OCM salutes Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan for his unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership, which continue to serve as a beacon of inspiration as the Malaysian Contingent prepares for the upcoming 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, where he will serve as the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent.
