THE post-mortem on the Malaysian Contingent’s performance at the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024 was held at the National Sports Council (NSC) today, culminating with the OCM Deputy President, Tan Sri Dato’ Hamidin Mohd Amin, handing over the hard copy of the detailed Chef de Mission report to Minister of Youth and Sports, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh.
The detailed written report encompassing various aspects of the Malaysian Contingent in the Games which took place from 26th July to 11th August 2024, was presented after the post-mortem session organised by the NSC and attended by representatives of the nine sports that contested in Paris.
In wishing for the report to be made a valuable reference for all stakeholders of the industry, Tan Sri Hamidin extended his appreciation to Y.B. Hannah for her Ministry’s continuous support to the Malaysian Contingent, particularly through the Road To Gold (RTG) and Podium programmes.
Also present were OCM Secretary General, Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, Deputy Chef de Mission, Datuk Nicol David, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ts. Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, NSC Director-General, Mr. Abdul Rashid Yaakub, National Sports Institute Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli, RTG coordinator and Datuk Stuart Ramalingam.
In the post-mortem session chaired by Y.B. Hannah Yeoh, representatives from Athletics, Aquatics Diving and Swimming, Archery, Badminton, Cycling Track and Road, Golf, Sailing, Shooting and Weightlifting, were invited to highlight issues surrounding their athletes’ performance in Paris 2024 and share their input in building the right momentum ahead of the XXXIV Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
The panellists invited to pose questions and discuss potential solutions were Nippon Sports Science University academicians, Dr Masamitsu Ito and Dr Shikegi Sarodo, Associate Prof Dr Nur Ikhwan Mohamad, the Deputy Dean for Research & Postgraduate at the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching, Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and a strength and conditioning expert, and Dr Eliza Hafiz, Deputy Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Student Affairs · Faculty of Sport and Exercise Sciences, University Malaya (UM) as well as High Performance and Well-Being adviser, Aaron Alsop. Also present was President of Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM), Mr. Norismadi Abdul Manap.
Among the topics discussed were the mental strength and well-being of the athletes, performance determinants, research and development, performance physiology and performance innovation.
