The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) successfully organised the 44th Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships from 25th May to 7th June 2026 at Sunway Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid.
The Championships, which featured a total prize money of RM 450,550, attracted 713 participants, including 208 international competitors from 17 countries, making it one of the largest and most competitive Bowling events in Asia.
Datuk Wira Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad, Deputy President of OCM, was accorded the honour of officiating the Step-Ladder Finals of the Championships on Sunday, 7th June 2026.
In his speech, Datuk Wira Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad congratulated the MTBC, under the leadership of Dato’ Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah, for successfully organising yet another outstanding edition of this prestigious Championships.
“This championship reflects Malaysia’s strong reputation in the sport of Bowling. For more than three decades, Bowling has been one of Malaysia’s most successful sports, producing world champions, bringing pride to our nation at the regional, continental and global levels, as well as contributing medals to the Malaysian Contingent at Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of the OCM” he said.
He also commended the MTBC for its vision in promoting new competition formats and its efforts to strengthen the future of Bowling in Southeast Asia and beyond.
“We hope these initiatives will contribute to the continued growth of Bowling and one day, pave the way for its return to the Asian Games” he added.
Prior to the start of the Step-Ladder Finals, Datuk Wira Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad witnessed the presentation of a Sports Matching Grant amounting to RM 135,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the MTBC.
Following an hour of intense competition, Datuk Wira Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad was given the honour of presenting prizes to the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Open categories.
Among those present in support of the Step-Ladder Finals were Mahaguru Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt (Vice President of OCM), Mdm. Nurul Huda Abdullah OLY (Vice President of OCM), Mr. Fong Wan Hor (Chief Executive Officer of OCM), Mr. Mohd Sofian Hamzah (Deputy Director General of NSC), Mr. Mohd Zaim Yusof (Director of the Athlete Division of NSC) and Mr. Mohamad Syahmi Mohd Anis (Senior Assistant Director of the Sports Development Division, National Department of Youth and Sports).
