NOC Malaysia Appoints the Malaysian Stadium Corporation its Strategic Partner on Olympic Day



The NOC Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia), successfully organized the 2025 Olympic Day Activation Ceremony on Monday, 23rd June 2025, from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm, at the foyer of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The Ceremony was jointly officiated by the following dignitaries:

1. Dr. Norza ZAKARIA, President of NOC Malaysia and Vice President of OCA.
2. Mdm. CHAN Hong Jin, Deputy Secretary General (Strategic), Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia.
3. Mdm. Anita Azrina ABDUL AZIZ, Chairperson of Malaysian Stadium Corporation
4. Mr. Iliyas JAMIL, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Stadium Corporation
5. Mr. Nur Azmi AHMAD, Deputy President of NOC Malaysia

The highlight of the Ceremony was the symbolic lighting of the LED facade of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, featuring the iconic Olympic Rings and the phrase “OLYMPIC DAY.” This powerful visual display served as a message from both the IOC and NOC Malaysia to all Malaysians, encouraging everyone to get active and take part in the global celebration of Olympic Day.

This simple yet meaningful activation ceremony was graced by the presence of NOC Malaysia Executive Board Members, Chairpersons of its Standing Committees and representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, National Sports Council of Malaysia, National Sports Institute of Malaysia, Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Bukit Jalil Sports School.

Also in attendance were approximately 80 national athletes from the sports of Diving, Gymnastics, Karate, Wushu and students from the Bukit Jalil Sports School. NOC Malaysia was especially honoured by the presence of four (4) legendary Olympians namely Dr. M. Jegathesan OLY (Athletics), Nurul Huda ABDULLAH OLY (Swimming), Mirnawan NAWAWI OLY (Hockey) and NG Shu Wai OLY (Gymnastics).

Mdm. Anita Azrina ABDUL AZIZ, the Chairperson of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation, in her welcome speech, expressed her appreciation to NOC Malaysia and in particular to Dr. Norza ZAKARIA, for the meaningful partnership and recognition extended through this year’s Olympic Day collaboration.

Dr. Norza ZAKARIA, in his speech, stated that the selection of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation and the Bukit Jalil National Stadium as host for the 2025 Olympic Day Activation Ceremony was based on several key reasons:

1. The Malaysian Stadium Corporation has subleased a 5.38-acre parcel of land within the Kuala Lumpur Sports City to NOC Malaysia for the construction of its new headquarters, the Olympic House, effective 1st March 2025.

2. The Malaysian Stadium Corporation and the Bukit Jalil National Stadium have significantly contributed to Malaysia’s sporting legacy by successfully hosting major international Multi-Sport Games such as the XVI Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur 1998, the 21st SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2001, the 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017, and soon, the 34th SEA Games in 2027.

3. The Malaysian Stadium Corporation was awarded the prestigious 2019 IOC Trophy “Sport and sustainable Architecture” in recognition of its commitment to sustainability and innovation in sports infrastructure

On this special occasion, Dr. Norza ZAKARIA also conveyed his sincere appreciation to the outgoing IOC President, Dr. Thomas BACH, for his visionary leadership in guiding the Olympic Movement into a new era.

“I would also like to extend our warmest congratulations to Mrs. Kirsty COVENTRY, who officially assumes the role of IOC President today, 23rd June 2025. We look forward to her leadership as we chart the future of the Olympic Movement” quoted Dr. Norza ZAKARIA in his speech.

To mark this meaningful and historic Olympic Day, Dr. Norza ZAKARIA officially announced the appointment of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation as a Strategic Partner of NOC Malaysia in its mission to advance the Olympic Movement in Malaysia.
