The OCM in collaboration with the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) celebrated the Olympic Day on Sunday, 23rd June 2024, at the Sports City, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus of UPSI.
The Olympic Day with the theme “𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲” was celebrated with three historical milestones of the Olympic Movement in Malaysia as follows:

𝟮. 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 (𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁) 𝗧𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗼’ 𝗦𝗿𝗶 (𝗗𝗿.) 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘇𝗮 𝗭𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮
𝟯. 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗠𝗢𝗨) 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗖𝗠 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗣𝗦𝗜
The OCM Athletes’ Education Fund, initiated of the President of OCM, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, will be operated under the OCM Trust Fund, which is managed by a Trust Management Committee chaired by the President of OCM. The OCM Athletes’ Education Fund aims to provide financial assistance and scholarships to national athletes pursuing tertiary education at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels. Olympians and athletes who have participated in any Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM will be placed on the priority list. In addition, the OCM Athletes’ Education Fund will provide grants to higher learning institutions in Malaysia to conduct research in the areas of Sport Administration, Sport Management and the Olympic Movement.
The Special Achievement Award (Sport) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria has been created by UPSI with a personal contribution of RM 100,000 from the President of OCM. The Award will honour the best graduates of the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching of UPSI, recoghnizing excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities. The Award will be presented annually in conjunction of the convocation ceremony of UPSI.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between OCM and UPSI is a historic event in the Olympic Movement in Malaysia. UPSI has become the first higher learning institution in Malaysia to be engaged by OCM as a strategic partner to promote the Olympic Movement in country. Under the framework of the MOU, collaboration will be established in the development of sport education programmes, joint research in the areas of Sport Administration, Sport Management and the Olympic Movement, attachment of staff and graduates for industrial training and sharing of information and reference materials in the field of sports.
𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗖 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗥𝗨𝗡
An Olympic Day Run was organised within the Sultan Azlan Shah Campus of UPSI with 5,000 participants, including of students of UPSI, children and public from the Muallim District of the State of Perak.
The Run was flagged off by the following personnel:
1. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria (President of OCM)
2. Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin (Deputy President of OCM)
3. Puan Sri Datuk Seri Rohani Parkash Binti Abdullah (Chairperson of the Board of Directors of UPSI)
4. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Md Amin Md Taff (Vice Chanselor of UPSI)
5. Mr. Helmi Zaifura Abdul Rahman (Registrar of UPSI)
Five (5) Olympians were present to support the Olympic Day Run and to inspire the 5,000 participants with their respective achievements in the Olympic Games. They are Dr. Mon Redee Sut Txi OLY (Archery – Athens 2004), Bryan Nickson Lomas OLY (Diving – Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012), Leung Chii Lin OLY (Swimming – Beijing 2008), Yu Peng Kean OLY (Fencing – London 2012) and Cheong Jun Hoong OLY (Diving – London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020), who is a silver medalist from Rio 2016 and 2017 World Champion in Diving.
Also present were Dato’ Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin (Treasurer of OCM), Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali (Assistant Treasurer of OCM) and the staff of OCM.
In his earlier speech, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria expressed his gratitude on behalf of OCM to the Vice Chancelor of UPSI, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Md Amin Md Taff, the Dean of Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching of UPSI, Dr. Jaffry Zakaria and the entire community of UPSI for their full cooperation in organising the Olympic Day Celebration in UPSI this year.
“As inspired by the Olympic Motto, 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 – 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, I would like to invite all of you to get active, to inculcate the 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 of 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 and 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 in your daily life and to assist the OCM to promoting the 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 at all levels of society in Malaysia” stated Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
