The Malaysian Contingent celebrated a huge milestone on the sixth day of the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, securing its first podium finish of the Games. The national athletes demonstrated grit and sportsmanship as they concluded their campaigns in Sailing and 3×3 Basketball.
The shores of Haihong Square provided the backdrop for Malaysia’s breakthrough. In the Sailing Optimist Boy’s event, Mr. Muhammad Yaasin Syahrizan delivered a stellar performance across ten races to claim the bronze medal, finishing behind Thailand’s Mr. Rachata Sadtrakulwattana (gold medalist) and Mr. Sorawit Naksuk (silver medlaist). Fellow teammate Mr. Khairul Ilzani Mohd Afendy concluded his campaign in 9th place. In the Optimist Girl’s event, Ms. Lydia Hannah Jasmine Lukman maintained her consistency to finish 6th overall, while Ms. Mia Azrania Mohd Azrald followed in 7th position after ten races.
The ILCA4 series also reached its conclusion today. In the Girl’s event, Ms. Nur Hafizanah Zailan secured a commendable 5th place overall after nine races, with Ms. Sara Amanda Mohd Noor Azman finishing just behind in 6th In the Boy’s event, Mr. Muhammad Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus ended his run in 8th place, while Mr. Muhammad Hilfi Nafael Mohd Hasrizan settled for 10th.
In Foil Windsurfing, Ms. Marcella Wilson Villaceran finished 9th overall in the Girl’s event after 12 races. In the Boy’s event, Mr. Muhammad Hafizin Mansor and Mr. Muhammad Yusri Syahrizan completed their campaign in 10th and 11th place respectively after 13 races.
Over at the Sanya Sports Centre Gymnasium, the 3×3 Basketball competition reached the knockout stages. The Malaysian Women’s Team saw their impressive run end in the quarterfinals, falling 15-7 to Singapore. The Men’s Team also exited in the quarter-final round following a 22-15 defeat to hosts China.
The bronze medal secured in the Sailing Optimist Boy’s event marks the conclusion of the Malaysian Contingent’s campaign at the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026.
Led by Mahaguru Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt, Vice President of OCM and Chef de Mission, the Malaysian Contingent will participate in the Closing Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, 30th April 2026, at the Yasha Park, in Sanya City, China.
