(Kampar, 17th July 2024) The OCA in collaboration with World Triathlon (WT), the Asia Triathlon (AT), the OCM and the Malaysia Triathlon Association (MTA), successfully organised the first edition of the Asian Triathlon Youth Camp from 10th to 17th July 2024 in Kampar, Perak, Malaysia.
The main objectives of the Asian Triathlon Youth Camp are to promote the development of the sport and to improve the performance standards of Triathlon in the Asian region.
The OCA facilitated and supported the participation of two athletes, one male and one female, between the ages of 15 and 17 and one coach per NOC by providing return air tickets, domestic transportation and full board and lodging for all of them.
The inaugural Asian Triathlon Youth Camp was conducted by a team of instructors from WT, including Mr. Vicente Beltran Alcala (Head Coach), Mr. Firas Al-Hmood (Continental Coordinator/Assistant Coach), Ms. Lindzi Nader (Assistant Coach), Ms. Lini Kazim (Assistant Coach), Ms. Pooja Chaurushi (Assistant Coach) and Mr. John Bonalos (Technical Official).
The first-ever Asian Triathlon Youth Camp was attended by 48 young athletes (29 males and 19 females) and 25 coaches from 25 member NOCs of OCA, including Bahrain (BRN), Hong Kong, China (HKG), India (IND), Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), Japan (JPN), Jordan (JOR), Kazakhstan (KAZ), Kyrgyzstan (KGZ), Republic of Korea (KOR), Saudi Arabia (KSA), Kuwait (KUW), Lebanon (LBN), Macau, China (MAC), Malaysia (MAS), Mongolia (MGL), Nepal (NEP), Pakistan (PAK), Philippines (PHI), Qatar (QAT), Syrian Arab Republic (SYR), Thailand (THA), Chinese Taipei (TPE), United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uzbekistan (UZB) and Vietnam (VIE).
The Closing Ceremony of the Asian Triathlon Youth Camp was held on Wednesday, 17th July 2024, at 9.00 am, at the Grand Kampar Hotel. It was officiated by three dignitaries who delivered official speeches on behalf of their respective organisations:
1. Mr. Wissam Trkmani – Special Projects/Olympic Solidarity Manager, OCA
2. Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt – Vice President, OCM
3. Mr. Vicente Beltran Alcala – Instructor, WT
Certificates of participation were jointly presented to all athletes and their coaches by Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt, Mr. Wissam Trkmani, Mr. Fong Wan Hor (General Manager of OCM) and the team of instructors from WT.
Dato’ (Dr.) Chong Kim Fatt conveyed the best regards of Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, to the OCA, WT, AT and MTA for successfully organizing the historic first Asian Triathlon Youth Camp in the peaceful township of Kampar, Perak, Malaysia, from 10th to 17th July 2024.
