Before checking in at the Olympic Village in St Denis, Paris, Chef de Mission for the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, made a transit stop at Lille, north from Paris to visit the Badminton Team, undergoing centralised training under the supervision of the Badminton Association of Malaysia, from 19-21 July 2024.
The team, consisting of the Men’s Doubles pair Aaron Chia Teng Fong OLY and Soh Wooi Yik OLY, the Women’s Doubles pair Pearly Tan Koong Le and Thinaah Muralitharan, and the Mixed Doubles pair Chan Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, is in their final week of preparation at Aire Sur La Lys before heading to the Olympic Village in Paris.
“I’ve been updated by Rexy Mainaky, Technical Director of BAM, on the current condition and preparation of the three pairs. All of them are in good condition and have given 100% during the training and psychological sessions also during the sparring matches.”
“For the three days I was with the team, I observed them, discussed with the coaches and athletes, and I am happy to say all of them are ready to compete. I believe the Badminton team can contribute medals to the Malaysian Contingent.”
As for Lee Zii Jia OLY and Goh Jin Wei, they are completing their final preparations in Malaysia and plan to fly to Paris on 21 July and 23 July, respectively. “I’ll meet them once they reach the Olympic Village,” said Datuk Hamidin.
The Badminton event will be held from 27 July to 5 August in Porte De La Chapelle Arena.
