The OCM presented the Certificate of Recognition provided by the World Olympians Association (WOA) to Ms. Annie Choong on Friday, 12 April 2019, at her resident in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Ms. Annie Choong, 84 years old, an Olympian, was a member of our first Contingent to the Olympic Games, the XVI Olympic Games Melbourne 1956.
She was the first and only female athlete of the contingent when Malaysia, then Malaya, made its Olympic debut in 1956. Her remarkable achievement was listed in the Malaysia Book of Records.
Besides that, she had also taken part in two Asian Games, i.e. the 2nd Asian Games Manila 1954 and the 3rd Asian Games Tokyo 1958.
Her achievements in the Multi-Sports Games mentioned above are as follows:
2nd Asian Games Manila 1954
- 4x100m Relay – ranked 4th with the timing of 50.7s
- Long Jump – ranked 6th with the distance of 5.01m
XVI Olympic Games Melbourne 1956
- 100m – Round 1, Heat 5, ranked 4th with the timing of 12.73s
3rd Asian Games Tokyo 1958
- 100m – Final, ranked 6th with the timing of 12.9s
- 200m – Heat 2, ranked 4th with the timing of 27.2s
Based on her contributions and achievements above, she was inducted into the OCM Hall of Fame in 2017.
