Under the dynamic leadership of President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohamad Norza Zakaria, the OCM set out on another courtesy visit to the ANOC Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday, 2nd February 2023.
This time, the visit was represented by its General Manager, Mr. Fong Wan Hor, who was well received by the ANOC Secretary General, Mrs. Gunilla Lindberg, ANOC NOC Services Manager, Mr. Gustavo Harada and ANOC Project Manager, Mr. Andres Santi.
Mr. Fong was tasked by President Tan Sri Dr. Norza to collaborate further with the ANOC in developing its own sustainability strategies, one of the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020 within the Olympic Movement. The OCM is committed to join other NOCs around the world to be part of the signatories of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework in the near future.
Furthermore, Mr. Fong also expressed the interest of the OCM to take a bigger role in supporting the ANOC’s initiatives by playing host for some of its programmes.
The OCM might bid to host the ANOC General Assembly again in the future as the OCM last hosted it was 21 years ago in 2002. The XIII ANOC General Assembly, which was held from 22nd to 24th May 2002 in Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, recorded the participation of delegates from 198 NOCs. In addition, a one-day IOC and NOCs Joint Meeting was held at the same location after the ANOC General Assembly on 25th May 2002.
A visit was also made to the IOC Headquarters by Mr. Fong in the afternoon of 2nd February 2023, where he met the Senior Manager of Safe Sport Unit of the IOC, Ms. Kristy Burrows.
The IOC is very impressed by the initiative of OCM, under the leadership of President Tan Sri Dr. Norza, for planning to organize an International Conference on Safe Sport, which is in line with the IOC Safe Sport Initiatives. The IOC Safe Sport Unit will facilitate and support the OCM to ensure the successful organization of the said International Conference in 2023.
