South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) Meetings



The South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) Meetings were held on 21 July and 22 July 2020 via online / videoconferencing.

The first day of the meeting started with a discussion on SEAGF Sports and Rules Committee which was chaired by Mr. Tran Duc Phan of Vietnam and the OCM was represented by Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin & Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi. Followed by SEAGF Medical Committee meeting at 1.00pm (Vietnam time) which was chaired by Dr. Nguyen Van Phu of Vietnam and Dato’ Dr. S.S. Cheema as the representative of OCM. At 4.30pm Malaysia time, Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar represented Malaysia for the Women & Sports Committee meeting which was chaired by Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen of Vietnam.

These three SEAGF Standing Committees Meetings discussed on the preparation for the coming 31st SEA Games, which will be held from 21 November to 2 December 2021 in Hanoi and its provinces in Vietnam.

On 22 July 2020, the SEAGF meeting was continued with the SEAGF Executive Committee meeting at 9.00am (Vietnam time). The meeting was chaired by Prof. Hoang Vinh Giang, Vice President of Vietnam Olympic Committee. The OCM was represented by Dato’ Seri Azim Zabidi, Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin & Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi. On the same day, the SEAGF Council Meeting was held from 2.00pm – 5.00pm (Vietnam time) and it was chaired by H.E Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, who is the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism who is also the President of Vietnam Olympic Committee. The OCM was represented by its President, Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, Dato’ Seri Azim Zabidi and Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin. Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi attended the meeting in his capacity as SEAGF Honorary Member.

The SEAGF Council accepted and confirmed vital matter as accepting the Report of the 30th SEA Games Philippines 2019 which was presented by the COO of the Philippines SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC), Mr. Ramon Suzara.

However in regard to the coming SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, 2021, there was no decision made on the final list of sports to be contested. Although Vietnam being the host had listed 36 sports, the Organising Committee will consider the appeal by SEAGF Member NOCs for the inclusion of 22 sports and 3 disciplines.

A final decision on the final list of sports to be contested in SEA Games 2021 in Vietnam will be made in the next meeting scheduled this November.

There is a long wish list for entry to the games and it depends on the host as ultimately they decide” said OCM President, Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria during the press conference after the SEAGF Executive Council Meeting.
