Technical Course for Coaches in Volleyball (Level 1)

The OCM in collaboration with the Malaysia Volleyball Association (MAVA) and Johor Volleyball Association (JAVA) organised the Technical Course for Coaches in Volleyball (Level 1), from 8 to 12 November 2019, at the UTM Sports Excellence, Skudai, Johor.

The Course was supported and endorsed by the Olympic Solidarity (OS) and Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) respectively. It was conducted by Mr. Shailen Ramdoo, from Finland, who was appointed by the FIVB.

Forty-two (42) Volleyball coaches from the 14 states of Malaysia attended the Course. The organizing committee had also included 3 foreign coaches from Singapore and 1 from Iran.

The OCM is glad to note that there are 6 national Volleyball players who had participated in the Course to improve themselves to the next level of coaching. These national players are as follows:
1. Ms. Angela Tang Ling Hui (Indoor)
2. Ms. Wong Wee Yan (Indoor)
3. Ms. Luk Teck Hua (Indoor & Beach)
4. Ms. Ng Sher Fen (Indoor)
5. Mr. Mohd Faiz Putra Abd Razak (Beach) and
6. Mr. Saphri Bakkang (Indoor)

The Opening Ceremony of the Course was officiated by Mr. Yean Lai Haw, Secretary of Coaching Board of MAVA on Friday, 8 November 2019 while the Closing Ceremony was officiated by Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, Assistant Secretary General of OCM on Tuesday, 12 November 2019.

Ms. Moira Tan Siew See in her speech congratulated all the 14 States Volleyball Associations for sending 3 coaches each to attend the said Course. She encouraged these coaches to actively promote and develop Volleyball at the grassroots level.

She said “Learning is a lifelong process and all of you, the Volleyball coaches, should apply the skills and knowledge learnt from the Course into your coaching sessions at grassroots level”.

Mr. Shailen Ramdoo, the expert, in his concluding message reminded all coaches that the FIVB Level 1 Course will equip them with basic knowledge to become coaches but not everyone will succeed in Level 2, which is more difficult to get through. He has identified 5 most outstanding coaches and recommended them for Level 2 Course. These coaches are as follows:
1. Ms. Ng Sher Fen
2. Ms. Angela Tang Ling Hui
3. Mr. Muhammad Safiq Abd Razak
4. Mr. Lee Thim Loy and
5. Mr. Fong Yaw Cheong

Present at the Closing Ceremony were Mr. Thiyanathan Mickel (Technical Chairman of JAVA), Mr. Mohd Amir Abdullah Mohd Amir Najib (Deputy Director of Johor Sports Council) and Mr. Rizam Rahmat (Assistant Director of UTM Sports Excellence).
