The Malaysian Contingent to the VII Commonwealth Youth Games Trinbago 2023, was given a warm welcome at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on their arrival on Tuesday, 15th August 2023.
The Malaysian Contingent led by the Chef de Mission, Mrs. Ang Li Peng, along with the secretariat, members of the Athletics and Aquatics-Swimming teams, were given a rousing welcome by Y.B. Adam Adli, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar, Vice President of CGA Malaysia and officials from the CGA Malaysia, the National Sports Council (NSC) and family members of the athletes.
The simple welcoming reception paid tribute to the sole gold medallist of the Contingent, Goh Li Hen, who bagged the gold in the Swimming Men’s 200m Butterfly event. The other medallists, Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid and Darwish Putra Muhd Sanusi (silver) together with Lau New Joe and Muhammad Hafi Muhd Jafri (bronze) from the Cycling Team, were scheduled to fly to Cali, Colombia from Trinidad and Tobago for another competition.
“Congratulations to the Malaysian Contingent for the 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medal haul to be ranked 14th out of 71 Commonwealth Nations and Territories.
“I wish to congratulate Mrs. Ang Li Peng for her exemplary leadership. Having been a gold medalist in Badminton at the XVII Commonwealth Games Manchester 2002, Li Peng was a source of motivation and inspiration to the young athletes in giving their best at the Games,” stated Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar, who is also the Chairperson of the Women and Sport Committee of CGA Malaysia.
The next Commonwealth Youth Games are scheduled for 2025, with the host nation to be announced later.
