A Learning Curve



A half day workshop for newly elected / appointed officials of various National Sports Associations was held by the OCM on 15 September 2020, at the Training Hall, Level 2C, OCM Indoor Sports Complex.

The workshop entailed giving the thirty-four (34) participants insights into the OCM’s organisational and operations as well as engaging with OCM’s senior officers.

Ms. Michelle Chai, the OCM Chief Operating Officer (COO) welcomed all the participants followed by a session where five (5) different scopes by five (5) senior officers of OCM, responsible for that particular scope was conducted.

The first presentation was on the OCM Organisation Structure, presented by Mr. Fong Wan Hor, the General Manager of OCM, followed by Finance by Mr. Chew Ah Chin.

The third presentation saw Ms. Stephanie Rajagopal explaining in Education and Training while Madam Ng Swee Fong provided a detailed outlook of Wisma OCM that coveted essential areas like Building and Facilities.

The session ended with an insight on the Multi-Sports Games (MSG) by Mr. Norhashimi Hashim who is the MSG General Manager.

It was a two way communication in the presentations as the participants were allowed to seek further clarifications.

There was good interaction by both parties keeps all the sessions lively and educational.

“As a first timer representing my association, I gained some new experience regarding the scopes presented. It is a good workshop for those newly elected secretaries” said Mr. Iwan Schani Ibnu, the newly appointed Assistant Secretary of the Chess association.

“With the knowledge that I have gained today, it gives me a chance to utilize the facilities in OCM” Mr. Iwan added.

The thirty-four (34) participants from twenty-five (25) NSAs consist of those experienced secretaries and also newly appointed ones.

There were familiar faces showing support to the OCM’s workshop and also inspired the new secretaries by meeting some who were legends in their respective fields.

“We need to be very transparent with the information and also willing to share the information as information is crucial and communication plays a huge role in any association” said the Honorary Secretary of Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM), Mr. Prabu Krishnasamy.

“As a secretary, we need to be neutral and transparent in our work as to serve our association better” added Mr. Prabu.

The OCM initiative in holding the workshop allowed all participants to get to know each other better and managed to create a stronger and better relationship between the NSAs and OCM.
