The Flag Handing Ceremony for the National Junior Netball Team, bound for the prestigious Netball World Youth Cup Gibraltar 2025, was officiated by Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, Assistant Secretary General of OCM, on Sunday, 14th September 2025, at 3.30 pm, at the Bukit Kiara Sports Complex, Kuala Lumpur.
The National Junior Netball Team earned the qualification for the Netball World Youth Cup this year following their outstanding triumph at the Asian Youth Netball Championships 2023.
They will proudly represent Malaysia, as well as the Asian Continent, at the Netball World Youth Cup 2025, scheduled to take place from 19th to 28th September 2025 in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.
Y.B. Hajah Alwiyah Talib, President of the Malaysian Netball Association (MNA), In her welcome speech, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to OCM, particularly to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM and Vice President of OCA, for the unwavering support towards the development of Netball at all levels in Malaysia.
“We are forever grateful to OCM for consistently providing tremendous support to the Malaysian Netball Association whenever needed and without fail” she said.
She further extended her appreciation to Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, who has dedicated over four decades to the growth of Netball in Malaysia, for gracing the symbolic ceremony and for offering words of encouragement to the national junior players preparing for the Netball World Youth Cup.
Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, In her speech, conveyed the best wishes and full support of Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria to the team manager, coaches, physiotherapist and all members of the National Junior Netball Team, who will be proudly carrying the Malaysian flag to Gibraltar.
She motivated the National Junior Netball Team to embrace the 4 guiding “D” in their preparations and competitions:
1. 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – set clear goals and a strong sense of purpose.
2. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 – demonstrate good behaviour, self-control and strict adherence to rules.
3. 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – strive to perform at the highest level and give the best for the country.
4. 𝗗𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – remain committed and devoted to the team and to Malaysia.
As Chairperson of the OCM Education and Training Committee and Programme Director of both the Olympic Solidarity’s Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) and the Sport Administrators Course (SAC), Ms. Tan Siew See also took the opportunity to remind the National Junior Netball Team of the 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 of 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁, and 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.
“I hope all of you will strive for 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in your performance, always giving your best in every competition. Show 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 for the rules, for your opponents, for your coaches and for yourselves. And most importantly, nurture 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, not only within your team but also across borders, to strengthen bonds and foster future collaboration for the growth of Netball in Southeast Asia, across Asia and around the world” she said.
During the symbolic Flag Handing Ceremony, Ms. Moira Tan Siew See presented the national flag to Y.B. Hajah Alwiyah Talib, who then officially handed it to the Team Manager, Datin Hajah Suryati Haji Omar, who subsequently presented it to the captain of the National Junior Netball Team, Ms. Siti Nur Hidayatul Ajhma Suhhaimi.
The OCM extends its best wishes to the National Junior Netball Team in their quest for glory at the Netball World Youth Cup Gibraltar 2025.
