The CGA Malaysia extends its heartfelt congratulations to promising cyclist, Lau New Joe, who proudly clinched Malaysia’s first medal at the VII Commonwealth Youth Games Trinbago 2023 on Monday, 7th August 2023.
New Joe, who began his Cycling career a year and a half ago after spending 10 years as a Short Track Speed skater, secured the bronze medal in the Men’s Road Race event, crossing the finish line with a commendable time of 1 hour, 33 minutes and 25 seconds, pipping Australia’s Sam McKee to the podium.
While the gold medal was claimed by Oisin Ferrity of Northern Ireland, who completed the race in a remarkable 1 hour, 33 minutes and 5 seconds, the silver medal was gracefully earned by Max Bufton of Wales, also clocking in at 1 hour, 33 minutes and 5 seconds. A total of 36 participants competed in this event.
New Joe, 18, also competed in the Men’s Individual Time Trial event held on Saturday, 5th August 2023 where he finished 12th among 29 participants.
