19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 – Chef de Mission Visit (8th August 2023)



Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt, Vice President of OCM and Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, continued his visit to motivate athletes in their final lap of preparations for the Games on Tuesday, 8th August 2023.

For the second week of his visit, Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt met up with athletes from the Aquatics-Diving and Aquatics-Swimming Teams at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The Aquatics-Diving Team consists of 12 divers (7 males & 5 females). Notably, 5 athletes from the Diving Team will be making their debut in the Asian Games, namely Mr. Gabriel Gilbert Daim, Mr. Enrique Maccartney Harold, Ms. Ong Ker Ying, Ms. Kimberly Bong Qian Ping and Mr. Bertrand Rhodict Lises who recently became the first athlete to earn a ticket to the XXXIV Olympic Games Paris 2024.

For Aquatics-Swimming Team, Malaysia will be represented by 8 swimmers (7 males & 1 female). Among them, only Ms. Phee Jinq En has the experience of participating in the Asian Games.

“Although China appear as the dominant force on paper in these 2 Aquatic disciplines due to their track record and reputation, I have faith that our divers and swimmers will fight until the end and push themselves in order to secure medals for the Malaysian Contingent”,

“Based on the results at the World Aquatics World Championships last month, I am confident the coaching staff will meticulously prepare the athletes mentally and physically for the upcoming Asian Games” stated Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt.

In the previous Asian Games, the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018, our Diving Team secured 1 silver medal through Ms. Ng Yan Yee OLY-Ms. Nur Dhabitah Sabri OLY in Women’s Synchronized 3m Springboard event) and 3 bronze medals from Mr. Chew Yiwei (Men’s 3m Springboard event), Ms. Nur Dhabitah Sabri OLY (Women’s 3m Springboard event) and Ms. Leong Mun Yee OLY-Ms. Nur Dhabitah Sabri OLY (Women’s Synchronized 10m Platform event).

Ms. Phee Jinq En was Swimming’s best performer, finishing in 5th place in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke event.
