KUALA LUMPUR (21st June 2024): The President of OCM, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria has been appointed as the Second Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) in the recent SEAGF Meetings held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The appointment of Tan Sri Dr. Norza was in accordance with Article 11.3 of the SEAGF Charter and Rules and by virtue of NOC Malaysia being the next host of the SEA Games, the 34th SEA Games in 2027.
In the SEAGF Sports and Rules Committee Meeting, NOC Thailand, as host of the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025, has proposed a preliminary sports programme as follows:
Category IA (Compulsory Sports):
• Aquatics and Athletics.
Category IB (Compulsory Sports):
• (Olympic Sports) Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Canoe & Rowing, Cycling, Equestrian and Polo, Fencing, Football & Futsal, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Wrestling, Ice Skating, Ice Hockey and Modern Pentathlon.
Category II (Sports in the Olympic Games and the Asian Games):
• Baseball & Softball, Billiards & Snooker, Boxing, Floorball, E-Sports, Muay, Netball, Pencak Silat, Petanque, Sepaktakraw & Chinlone and Squash.
Category III (Other Sports):
• Teqball and Kickboxing. Demonstration Sports:
• Flying Disc and Tug of War
The preliminary 40-sport programme, together with the 2 demonstration sports, was presented to the SEAGF Executive Committee Meeting for further discussion and subsequently to the SEAGF Council Meeting for endorsement.
The SEAGF Council adopted the preliminary 40-sport programme and the 2 demonstration sports on the condition that NOC Thailand provides the opportunity for other SEAGF Member NOCs to submit their respective appeals for additional sports by 31st August 2024.
“Under the SEAGF Charter and Rules, every host NOC is entitled to propose a list of preliminary sports from various categories, subject to final approval by the SEAGF Council after considering the appeals of the other NOCs” said Tan Sri Dr. Norza.
“The OCM is working on submitting an appeal for additional sports to the SEAGF before the deadline” he added.
As stipulated in Article 34.1.6 of the SEAGF Charter and Rules, the final list of sports and disciplines for approval by the SEAGF Council must be conveyed by the host NOC to all SEAGF Member NOCs no less than fifteen (15) months before the date of the Opening Ceremony of the SEA Games it is to host.
Since the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025 is scheduled to be held from 9th to 20th December 2025, the NOC Thailand has until 9th September 2024 to finalise the sports and disciplines to be competed in the Games.
