Recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) on the Organisation of Olympic Carnival in Malaysia



The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) presented its recognition to the Penang State Government on two (2) achievements as follows:

1. The first state to have organised the Olympic Carnival in Malaysia (in 2019).
2. The first state to have organised the Olympic Carnival in Malaysia twice consecutively (in 2019 and 2022).

The certificate presentation ceremony was held on Monday, 3rd October 2022, at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office, in Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (KOMTAR), Penang.

During the ceremony, Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Michael Tio, the Chief Executive Officer of the MBR, presented the certificate of recognition to Honorable Mr. Soon Lip Chee, the Penang State Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports. The presentation was witnessed by The Right Honourable Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, the Chief Minister of Penang and Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of the OCM.

After the presentation by the MBR, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria presented a mock cheque amounting of USD 10,000 to The Right Honourable Mr. Chow Kon Yeow being the Olympic Day Subsidy to the Penang State Government for having organized the two (2) Olympic Carnivals in Penang in 2019 and 2022.

“The recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records on the organisation of the Olympic Carnival in Penang is an important milestone in the Olympic Movement in Malaysia”;

“On behalf of the OCM and in my capacity as the President of the OCM, I am pleased to confirm that the recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records to the Penang State Government is true, accurate and correct”
stated Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria in his speech.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria also quoted a statement by the IOC President, Mr. Thomas Bach, who had said
“Our mission is to make the world a better place through sport. This Olympic mission is not a political mission. This Olympic mission is a humanitarian mission”.

The OCM hopes that the Olympic Values which the Olympic Movement builds will be adopted by the Penang State Government into the “Penang 2030 Vision” towards the objective to increase the liveability and the quality of life of the citizens in Penang.
