Welcome Cheong Jun Hoong OLY



The OCM welcomed the Olympic Medalist in Diving, Cheong Jun Hoong OLY, to its office on Wednesday, 11th January 2023.

Jun Hoong was born in Ipoh, Perak and she started her career in Diving at the age of 9. She is an alumni of the Bukit Jalil Sports School and possesses a Bachelor Degree in Communications from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The 3-time Olympian, Jun Hoong made her Olympic debut at the XXX Olympic Games London 2012 where she qualified to compete in 2 events ie Diving Women’s 3m Springboard and Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised together with Pandalela Rinong Pamg OLY. She had contributed a Silver medal for the Malaysian Contingent in the Women’s 10m Platform Synchronised event together with Pandelela Rinong Pamg OLY at the XXXI Olympic Games Rio 2016. She had also qualified to compete in the Women’s 3m Springboard and 3m Springboard Synchronised events in Rio Olympics. In the third Olympic outing, the XXXII Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, she qualified to compete in the Women’s 10m Platform event.

She has achieved outstanding results in numerous international Diving championships under the sanction for Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), now known as World Aquatics, namely the FINA Diving World Cup 2014 and 2016 (2 Silvers), FINA Diving World Series 2018 (1 Gold). Her best achievement was recorded in the 17th FINA World Championships held from 14th to 30th July 2017, where she won a gold medal in Women’s 10 Platform event, making her the Malaysia’s first Diving World Champion in history. She had partnered with Pandelela Rinong Pamg OLY to win a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Platform Synchronised event in the same Championships.

Based on her World Champion achievement in 2017, she was chosen as 1 of the 3 flagbearers for the Malaysian Contingent at the Opening Ceremony of the 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017, alongside with 2 other World Champions, namely Cyclist Dato’ Mohd Azizulhasni Awang OLY and Silat exponent Mohd Al-Jufferi Jamari.

Jun Hoong was also a member of the Malaysian Contingent to the following Continental and Regional Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM/CGA Malaysia, where she had contributed a number of medals:
