Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024, continues to pay a visit to athletes who have already qualified for Paris 2024.
Today, on 26 February 2024 (Monday), Datuk Hamidin started his day in the morning to meet Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi at the National Sport Centre in Nilai. Ariana, an 18-year-old archer, surprised everyone by successfully securing a slot at the Paris 2024 World Archery Asian Continental Qualifier Tournament 2023 in Thailand, where she clinched the gold medal for the Women’s Recurve event.
Ariana is now training under the former national player, Marbawi Sulaiman OLY, who represented Malaysia in the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.
Later in the evening, Datuk Hamidin spent some time meeting sailor, Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif OLY, along with her new coach Julia Fernanda Martins Da Silva, Mr. Luqman Abu Bakar (Deputy President), and Ms. Nurul Ain Md Isa (Committee Member) from the Malaysia Sailing Association at the Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
Shazrin, who has just returned from a tournament in Greece, is the sole sailor to secure a slot at the Paris 2024 Olympics so far. She earned this slot after winning the gold medal in Sailing Women’s Single-Handed Dinghy ILCA 6 at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
“Both of them shared their updates with me on the preparation for the Olympic Games. Ariana is still young and a prospect for Malaysia. There is no pressure for her, I just ask her to give her best in Paris. Ariana also shared with me her gear (arrows and bows) and the importance of having extra gear as a backup.
“As for Shazrin, she told me it is very important for her to become accustomed to the weather and the sailing routes. In her planning, she will have training in Europe and I hope everything will go smoothly with her new coach,” said Datuk Hamidin.
“As Chef de Mission, I will give my support and do my best to help the athletes with their preparation.”
For the next visit, Datuk Hamidin is planning to meet Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir, a national road cyclist, on 1 March 2024.
