XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024 – Chef De Mission Visit

Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, Deputy President of OCM and Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024, paid a visit to the two (2) cycling athletes under the Road to Gold (RTG) Programme, Dato’ Azizulhasni Awang OLY and Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom OLY at the National Velodrome in Nilai on Monday, 5th June 2023.

Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and his deputy, Datuk Nicol Ann David, were warmly welcomed by Dato’ Amarjit Singh Gill, the Vice President of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) and Mr. John Beasley, Head Coach of the Malaysian Track Cycling Team. Also present was Dato’ Chong Kim Fatt, Vice President of OCM, who is also the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

The meeting was held over one hour where Datuk Hamidin was briefed of the duo’s latest updates following their return from the Hong Kong International Track Cup II and their preparations for upcoming tournaments leading up to the Olympic Games.

The cyclists’ requests on performance-enhancing matters were identified and will be further discussed in the Road To Gold (RTG) Committee co-chaired by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh and Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.

“In my discussion with the duo, it is imperative that they take care of their health. Both will be participating in the Asian Track Championship 2023 this month at the National Velodrome, Nilai, followed by the UCI Cycling World Championship in Glasgow in August.”

“They will then head to Hangzhou for the 19th Asian Games in September. So, I want them not to think too much on the Olympics at the moment and give their best in these upcoming tournaments.”

“The most important thing is for them to focus on the training, nutrition intake and health in order to perform well, earn points and qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” said Datuk Hamidin.

While responding to media queries, Datuk Hamidin gave his assurance MNCF’s request to include one more cyclist, Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis into the RTG program will be brought to the Committee’s attention for approval.

“Fadhil is not the only athlete under consideration as those who have a chance to qualify and win gold in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be considered. We will monitor closely the performance of several national athletes including our Badminton players namely Ng Tze Yong, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun” he said.
