BADMINTON
Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei continued their winning momentum by notching their second victory in Group D of the Mixed Doubles event after a 21-15, 24-22 straight sets win against Vinson Chiu/Jennie Gai from the USA.
Lee Zii Jia OLY began his Olympic campaign with an easy straight-sets victory against Viren Nettasinghe from Sri Lanka, winning 21-14, 21-12 in the Men’s Singles event.
Aaron Chia OLY/Soh Wooi Yik OLY took 40 minutes to win their second game in Group A of the Men’s Doubles. They defeated Adam Dong and Nyl Yakura from Canada with a score of 21-10, 21-15. They will face the world No. 1 Men’s Doubles team, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang from China, in their final group stage match on 29 July.
After the defeat in the opening tie on 27 July, Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan bounced back with a win in the Group A match in the Women’s Doubles against Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara with a score of 18-21, 21-15, 21-16. They will face the Indonesian pair Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva on 30 July for their last game of the group stage.
ARCHERY
Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi, Syaqiera Mashayikh OLY and Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil lost 3-5 to the Indonesian trio of Diananda Choirunisa, Syifa Nurafifah Kamal and Rezza Octavia in the Women’s Team 1/8 Elimination Round.
With the conclusion of the team event, the Malaysian trio will now train their sights and their arrows in the individual events on 30 and 31 July.
SWIMMING
Tan Rouxin, on her debut at the Olympic Games, finished in Heat 1 of the Women’s 100m Breaststroke in 1st place with a time of 1:12.50. Overall, she was ranked 33rd out of 37 athletes, with only the top 16 swimmers qualifying for the semi final event.
