Under the searing heat at Invalides right in the heart of Paris, Syaqiera Mashayikh OLY came close to entering the quarterfinals of the Women’s Recurve Individual event after a narrow defeat to Brazilian Ana Luiza Sliachhticas Caetano.
Syaqiera, making her second straight Olympic appearance after Tokyo 2020, beat Moldova’s Alexandra Mirca (30-27, 27-23, 26-24) in her opening round clash to advance to the top 32 stage. Unfortunately, she went down 5-6 (27-27, 28-28, 28-24, 27-27, 24-29) to Caetano in the 1/16 elimination.
BADMINTON
Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan concluded the Women’s Doubles group stage as Group A runners up after winning 21-18, 21-9 against Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
They are the third Malaysian representatives to advance to the next stage after the Malaysian Mixed doubles of Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei and Aaron Chia OLY/Soh Wooi Yik OLY in the Men’s Doubles.

With her whole family in Paris to lend their moral support, Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi faces Italy’s Chiara Rebagliati who finished 15th with 663 points in the ranking rounds. Placed 50th with a score of 633, a far cry from her national mark of 669, Ariana who turned 19 on 27 July, hopes to upset the formbook in Paris.
Having been placed 60th in the ranking rounds with 622 points, Nurul Azreena Mohamad Fazil takes on fifth placed archer, Elif Berra Gokkır of Turkiye who scored 671 points in the ranking rounds.
BADMINTON
World No 32 Goh Jin Wei is in a must-win situation when she takes the court against South Korea’s world No. 17 Kim Ga Eun in the Group H match, with the winner advancing to the round of 16.
Men’s Singles hope Lee Zii Jia OLY is expected to breeze past Pablo Abian OLY, the oldest player at 39 in the Paris Olympics as they clash in the second Group G match with a spot in the last 16 at stake. Although Abian has previously beaten former Malaysian players Hafiz Hashim and Wong Choong Hann OLY throughout his entire career, Zii Jia is likely to prevail.
Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei seem to have found their rhythm in Paris as they face South Korea’s world No. 8 Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun in the quarter-finals, two days after defeating China’s world No. 2 Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping to emerge as group winners. Based on head-to-head records, the Malaysians have a slight advantage over the Koreans after beating the latter in two of their past three meetings last year.
