The OCM supported the community sports programme organised by the Taman Tun Dr. Ismail Residents’ Association (TTDI RA) at the Taman Rimba Kiara in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 15th July 2023.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria (President of OCM), Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar (Vice President of OCM), Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali (Assistant Treasurer of OCM) and 8 members of the OCM staff were present physically at the Taman Rimba Kiara to support the community sports programme.
The said community sports programme which adopted the theme of the 2023 Olympic Day: “Let’s Move” was endorsed by the OCM as part of the Olympic Day celebration in Malaysia.
The community sports programme comprising of 7 activities namely “Formula One With Baton”, “Throwing Vortex”, “Standing Jump”, “Slalom and Sprint”, “Passing the Ball”, “Compass Hop” and “Endurance Run”, were attended by a number of children, aged between 7 to 15 years, who were companied by their parents and family members.
Mr. Brian Chin Peng Hon, the Chairman of the TTDI RA, in his speech, thanked the OCM and the President of OCM, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, for collaborating and endorsing their community sports programme associated with the worldwide Olympic Day Celebration.
Mdm. Yap Yee Vonne, the Political Secretary to Y.B. Hannah Yeoh who is the Member of Parliament in Segambut and Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, in her speech, encouraged more similar community programmes to be organised in Segambut Constituency in the future.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, in his speech, acknowledged the effort by the TTDI RA for organising the community sports programme to foster community engagement and promote a sense of unity – universal values, espoused by the Olympic Movement.
Tan Sri Dr Norza also quoted Mr. Thomas Bach, President of IOC, who said: “Sport always builds bridges and brings people together in peace and solidarity. On this Olympic Day, please join us as we call on everyone around the world to give peace a chance”.
“In our record, this is the first time that a Residents Association has approached us to celebrate the Olympic Day at the community level”,
“The theme of the Olympic Day this year is Let’s Move. I hope the Olympic Day celebration will inspire all the residents within Taman Tun Dr. Ismail to move and to get active wherever they are” quoted Tan Sri Dr. Norza in his speech.
Tan Sri Dr. Norza was appointed as the Chair of the OCA Sports for All Committee on Wednesday, 12th July 2023. Therefore, the community sports program by the TTDI RA today (15th July 2023) is officially the first ever Sports for All activity officiated by him in his new capacity in the OCA Executive Board.
