Dr. Norza Zakaria Welcome World Taekwondo President Dr. Choue Chung-Won to Malaysia



Dr. Norza ZAKARIA made a special day trip to Kuching, Sarawak, on Saturday, 26th July 2025, to witness the Opening Ceremony of the 2025 Asian Junior, Cadet and Para Taekwondo Championships. The prestigious event, held at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya, Kuching, Sarawak, runs from 25th July to 1st August 2025 and has brought together Asian most promising young talents and para-athletes in Taekwondo.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by the Honourable Dato’ Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (Youth and Sports), representing the Premier of Sarawak, the Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The event was further elevated by the presence of key figures from the international Taekwondo community, including the leaderships of the International Federation (IF) and Asian Federation (AF).

“On behalf of the Olympic Family in Malaysia, I extend our warmest welcome to Dr. CHOUE Chung-Won, President of World Taekwondo, on his visit to Malaysia, especially to the culturally rich State of Sarawak” said Dr. Norza ZAKARIA, President of NOC Malaysia and Vice President of OCA.

“We deeply appreciate his presence and unwavering support for the development of Taekwondo, which continues to grow as one of the most dynamic Olympic sports in Malaysia” Dr. Norza ZAKARIA added.

Dr. Norza ZAKARIA also took the opportunity to extend his heartiest congratulations to Mr. KIM Sang-Jin on his election as the new President of the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) during the ATU General Assembly held in Kuching on Friday, 25th July 2025. At the same time, he expressed sincere gratitude to the outgoing ATU President, Prof. LEE Kyu-Seok, for his outstanding leadership and remarkable contribution to the promotion and development of Taekwondo across Asia over the past four decades.

“I would also like to personally commend the Honourable Azizul Annuar ADENAN, Vice President of NOC Malaysia and President of Taekwondo Malaysia, for his exceptional leadership in bringing the Asian Taekwondo Championships back to Malaysian soil, an achievement last accomplished 33 years ago in 1992” Dr. Norza ZAKARIA concluded.
