The 4th and Final Organizing Committee Meeting of the Olympic Carnival Penang 2019 was held on Tuesday, 28 May 2019, at the Vouk Hotel, Penang.
The Meeting was chaired by Y.B. Soon Lip Chee, Penang State Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, who is also the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee.
The OCM was represented by Dato’ Ong Poh Eng (Vice President), Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin (Secretary General) and Mr. Fong Wan Hor (General Manager).
The registration for the Olympic Carnival (12-22 June 2019) and the Family Fun Walk (23 June 2019) was very encouraging with nearly 10,000 people registered.
The finale of the Olympic Carnival will be the 2019 Olympic Day Celebration, which will be officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, Y.A.B. Chow Kon Yeow.
Highlights of the 2019 Olympic Day Celebration will be the following activities:
- Torch Run by ex-Olympians from Penang.
- Lighting of the “Olympic Flame” by the Gold Medalist of Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, Goh Jin Wei.
- Unveiling of the “Olympic Mark” and launching of the countdown for XXXII Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
- Presentation of two (2) Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games tickets which will be inclusive of hotel accommodations and return air tickets to Tokyo, as lucky draw prizes.
The OCM would like to thank the Penang State Government and its agencies, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Penang Badminton Association, the Penang Volleyball Association, the Penang Sepaktakraw Association, the Penang Tenpin Bowling Association, the Worldwide Olympic Partners, the Sponsors of OCM and other sponsors for their contribution and support for the inaugural Olympic Carnival Penang 2019.
