The President, Executive Board and Management of the OCM express their heartfelt condolences to the family members of Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah OLY, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 14th December 2022, at the age of 75.
Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah OLY was one of the national sprinters in the 1970s. Besides being selected to represent Malaysia in numerous International Athletics Championships, he was also selected as a member of the Malaysian Contingent to participate in a few Multi-Sport Games under the jurisdiction of OCM.
He was first selected as a member of the Men’s 4 x 400m Relay Team to participate in the 6th Asian Games Bangkok 1970. His best individual achievement in the Multi-Sport Games was winning the silver medal of Men’s 200m event at the 7th SEAP Games Singapore 1973. He was also a member of the Relay Teams who had contributed medals for the Malaysian Contingent in the three (3) consecutive SEAP Games as follows:
1. 6th SEAP Games Kuala Lumpur 1971 – 4 x 100m (Bronze)
2. 7th SEAP Games Singapore 1973 – 4 x 100m (Bronze) & 4 x 400m (Gold)
3. 8th SEAP Games Bangkok 1975 – 4 x 200m (Bronze) & 4 x 400m (Bronze)
He had achieved his dream of being an Olympian when he qualified to compete in the Athletics Men’s 4 x 400m event in the XX Olympic Games Munich 1972. The Relay Team consisting of Mr. Krishnan Tambusamy OLY, Mr. Mohd Hassan Osman OLY, Mr. Peyadesa Plb Singa OLY and Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah OLY, clocked 3:13.51 to rank 6 in the Heat 3, Round 1 of the event.
In 2008, at the age of 61, Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah OLY took the initiative to enrol into the first edition of the Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) conducted by the OCM in collaboration with the Olympic Solidarity. He had shown great dedication and commitment to graduate from the Course successfully with a “Diploma in Management of Olympic Sport Organisation”.
“The contribution of Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah for the sport of Athletics is phenomenal. We would like to record our recognition for his dedication and sacrifices in the development of Athletics since 1970s” quoted Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
The demise of Mr. Sabapathy Sinnayah OLY is a great loss to the Athletics fraternity in Malaysia. May his soul Rest in Peace.
