It is with profound sorrow that the Commonwealth Games Federation of Malaysia (CGA Malaysia) learnt of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), on Thursday, 8th September 2022, at the age of 96.
Her Majesty The Queen, the longest reigning British Monarch, had united the Commonwealth nations with her extraordinary dedication and services throughout her long life and reign.
The CGA Malaysia had many cherished moments with Her Majesty The Queen, especially during the Closing Ceremony of the XVI Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur 1998, which was held on Monday, 21st September 1998.
“On behalf of the CGA Malaysia, we would like to convey our deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles III. Our thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty The King and the British Royal Family during this period of bereavement”

- Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was accompanying by the then Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Malaysia, Dato’ Hamzah Abu Samah during her official visit to Malaysia in 1972. Note: Dato’ (later Tan Sri) Hamzah Abu Samah was the 4th President of CGA Malaysia.
