The CGA Malaysia extends its warmest congratulations to two athletes, Darwish Putra Muhd Sanusi and Muhammad Hafiq Mohd Jafri, who secured a silver and a bronze medal respectively for the Malaysian Contingent at the VII Commonwealth Youth Games Trinbago 2023 on Thursday, 10th August 2023.
The Contingent’s flagbearer, Muhammad Hafiq, 18, climbed the podium in the Cycling-Track Men’s 1,000m Time Trial cycling event after finishing third out of 10 participants, earning the bronze medal with a time of 1:04.994. The gold medal went to Tayte Ryan from Australia, while the silver was claimed by Calum Moir from Scotland.
Following that impressive performance, another young cyclist, Darwish Putra, 18, added a silver medal for the Malaysian Contingent, clocking a time of 11.462 in the Cycling-Track Men’s Keirin event. The gold medal went to Tayte Ryan from Australia, who achieved a time of 11.392, while Trinidad & Tobago’s Syndel Samaroo, claimed the bronze with a time of 11.620.
“The whole Malaysian Contingent were present at the National Cycling Velodrome to throw our support to the Cycling team. I am extremely delighted with their exceptional performance to mark the conclusion of our challenge here,” said Mrs. Ang Li Peng, the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent.
The Malaysian Contingent garnered five medals in total, with one gold, two silver and two bronze, an improvement from the previous appearance in Bahamas 2017, when the Contingent returned empty-handed.
