XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024 – Chef de Mission Visit

Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the XXXIII Olympic Games Paris 2024, met three athletes on Thursday, 11 July 2024 before they depart for Paris.

His first stop was at the National Aquatics Centre, where he met Khiew Hoe Yean, Tan Rouxin and their coach, Eric Victor Anderson. Hoe Yean, who is currently based in Australia and Rouxin, who trains in Johor, had just finished competing at the Malaysia Short Course Swimming Championships and had gathered in Bukit Jalil for a training camp.

Both athletes will make their Olympic debut in Paris, with Hoe Yean participating in the Men’s 400m Freestyle and Rouxin in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke.

After meeting the swimmers, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin visited the NSC Mini Stadium, where sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi was undergoing training. Also present was Mr. Robert John Ballard, the Technical Director of the Malaysia Athletics team.

Azeem recently returned to Malaysia after winning two gold medals (Men’s 200m and Men’s 4x100m) and one silver medal (Men’s 100m) at the ASEAN University Games in Indonesia. He will continue his training in Malaysia until the Olympic Games, where he will make his Olympic debut in the Men’s 100m event.

“Today was a good meeting with all of them. They are still young—Hoe Yean is 22, Rouxin is 18, and Azeem is 20. I reminded them to enjoy the Games and do their best. Even if they compete through universality places, I told them to post their personal bests and make Malaysia proud,” said Datuk Hamidin.

This will be his last visit in Malaysia as Datuk Hamidin is scheduled to visit the cycling track team in Mallorca. Datuk Hamidin is also scheduled to pay the badminton team a visit in Lille, where they will undergo their final training camp beginning next week before heading to Paris.
