The First Gold Medal For The Malaysia Contingent



The Karate Team has contributed the first gold medal for the Malaysian Contingent to the 32nd SEA Games Cambodia 2023 on Saturday, 6 May 2023.

The first gold medal for the Malaysian Contingent was contributed by Ms. Shamalarani Chandran through Karate Women’s Kumite -50kg event. The silver won by Ms. Villanueva Tsukii Junna of Philippines while the 2 bronze medals won by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu of Vietnam and Ms. Chanyanut Chippensuk of Thailand respectively.

Ms. Shamalarani Chandran, 25 years old, who is making her second appearance in the SEA Games, was also the gold medalist in the same event (Karate Women’s Kumite -50kg) at the 31st SEA Games Vietnam 2021.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, who is also a member of the Council of the SEAGF, was given the great honour to present the medals for the Karate Women’s Kumite -50kg event. With that special arrangement, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria has been given the great pleasure of officially presenting the first gold medal for the Malaysian Contingent.

“On behalf of the OCM, I would like to thank Ms. Shamalarani Chandran for her dedication in the sport of Karate by contributing the first gold medal to the Malaysian Contingent” quoted Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center: Hall A.

The OCM congratulated Ms. Shamalarani Chandran for her remarkable achievements.
